Birthday Wishes for my son Adam
Jerral Sapienza
It's time now to celebrate Adam,
		another birthday now for you.
You're a little bit older and wiser, no doubt,
with a few more things you can do.

Still a year til "legal" and four til you're "real."
You probably can't wait til you're there!
		Not that Time hurries onward, or waits or remembers;
that's all in the calendar's care.

For soon enough years will begin to pass quickly
and sooner perhaps than you'll choose.
But that's okay, too, since it matters you've been here
there's nothing to win or to lose

when you've lived your life fully and careful, your steps
are always a matter of choice.
And this day, this Friday this Sixth now is yours
to smile, to be special: Rejoice!

It's warm spring weather on this early June day
as school lets out . Let Summer begin!
A blessing, part lonely, on a pivotal day
with a yearning toward tomorrow within.

I imagine your voice as you laugh and tell stories
Yes, still I can sense and can hear it.
I trust you're entrusted with Hearts who respect you,
who hold you in Love and in Spirit.

Some day, dear Adam, our mysteries will share
		their own intertwining together between
but that time's for Futures, for here now Today
		is your Portal of Seventeen.

May the Bountiful and Prosperous this day reserve for you
all Blessings, Love and Happiness, with Friendship good and true.

						I love you, Dear. -Jerral

As the title & subtitle implies, this is a celebration poem for my son's 17th birthday on this first day of "summer" as his school lets out and he is cast into the season of play and thought and growing up a little bit more. It goes out across the miles to him, and therefore has a bit of a wistfulness in its otherwise celebrative tone. Ah yes: Would that we could be together . . .
